## Lecture 16: Proof of Geometric Lemma and Shannon’s setup

In Friday’s lecture, we finished the proof of the geometric lemma that was left from the last lecture, which completed our proof for the Plotkin bound. For more details see the fall 07 notes of  Lecture 17 (the notes are now polished). We then shifted gears and talked about how Shannon defined his stochastic noise models. In particular, we saw the Binary Symmetric Channel with crossover probability $p$ (or $BSC_p$). Next lecture, we will talk about a few more stochastic noise models and then we will start with the Shannon’s “capacity” result for $BSC_p$. For the latter part of the lecture see the fall 07 notes of Lecture 8.
