Lecture 1: Introduction

In today’s lecture, we focused mostly on administrative stuff. For more details, see the syllabus. I have also uploaded a pps of my slides

Thank you all for filling in the feedback form. It looks like most of you are familiar with linear algebra, algorithms and probability. Finite fields seems to be an area which is new. This good (and perhaps expected given almost all of you have CSE background). As I said in class, we will have a brief overview in a lecture, so you will have plenty of opportunity to brush up your basics if you need to. Also we will use pretty much the basics from all these areas, so you all should be fine.

I’ll announce the popular choice as my office hours in the next post.
